Helmet Law Bill is Signed by Governor
Posted on Apr 13, 2012 1:25pm PDT
On April 13, 2012, Governor Rick Snyder has announced his decision to sign Senate Bill 291.
This new law allows motorcycle operators to ride WITHOUT A HELMET if they are age 21 or older. They must have at least $20,000 of first party (medical benefits) insurance coverage. Plus, they must have had an endorsement for more than 2 years OR by taking a certified motorcycle safety course and receiving an endorsement.
Your passenger may also ride helmetless if they are at least age 21 and are also covered with at least $20,000 of first party benefits. What this means is that if the passenger does not have insurance on their own, you may need to buy an additional $20,000 of this coverage, in addition to your own.
