Are Back Roads Safer?
Posted on Nov 10, 2010 2:35pm PST
When I go out riding with my friends, they always say something like “lets take the back roads, they’re safer than the freeway.” That’s when I say, “that’s actually not true.” I see many moremotorcycle accidentson “back roads” or “country roads” than I do on freeways. By a big margin.
Here’s another example: Today, Nov. 11 in the early morning hours a motorcyclist was riding down M-72 in Kalkaska, when a truck pulled out from a side, road near the scenic overlook, directly into his path. The motorcycle then slid under the truck and was pinned there at last report. The truck driver said: “The sun was in my eyes.”
